Triumph has introduced its new Speed Twin 1200 models, with the standard version available for Rs 12.75 lakh and the more advanced RS variant priced at Rs 15.50 lakh. Both models are equipped with the same engine, maintain a similar aesthetic, and offer most of the same features. The primary distinction lies in the components of the cycle.

The Speed Twin 1200 models are equipped with a 105hp engine. The RS variant features Brembo brakes and Ohlins suspension, along with a standard quickshifter.

The Speed Twin 1200 and the RS continue to utilize the same liquid-cooled, 1,200cc parallel-twin engine as their predecessors, but this engine has been enhanced with a new cam, a sportier tuning, and an elevated redline of 8,000 rpm. It now delivers 105hp at 7,750rpm and 112Nm of torque at 4,250rpm. This marks an increase of 5hp, achieved 500rpm later in the power band, matching the output of the previous Thruxton model.

Both variants feature a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch, but the RS stands out with the addition of a bidirectional quickshifter, making it the first neo-retro model from Triumph to offer this feature. The standard 1200 model cannot accommodate this quickshifter due to its different footpeg configuration.

The Speed Twin 1200 models have undergone an update in their instrumentation, replacing the twin digi-analogue dials with the LCD/TFT display found in the Trident 660. This modern unit is now featured on an increasing array of Triumph models, including the recently introduced Speed Twin 900. The switchgear remains unchanged across both Speed Twin variants, and a USB-C charging port is included as a standard feature.

The base Speed Twin 1200 offers a more comfortable ergonomic experience compared to the higher-spec RS model, which features lower handlebars and more rear-set footpegs. However, the RS stands out as the more advanced option, equipped with a fully adjustable Marzocchi fork, Ohlins shock absorbers, and Brembo Stylema calipers paired with 320mm discs. Additionally, the RS is fitted with high-performance Metzeler Racetec RR tires.

As expected, the components on the base Speed Twin 1200 are less sophisticated than those on the RS. It features a non-adjustable 43mm fork and twin shock absorbers, both sourced from Marzocchi. For braking, it utilizes Triumph-branded radial 4-piston calipers that grip dual 320mm discs, while the standard Speed Twin is equipped with Metzeler M9RR tires.

The standard Speed Twin 1200 can be found in three color options: white, red, and silver. In contrast, the RS variant offers two choices: black and orange. True to Triumph’s tradition, there is a wide array of factory-supplied accessories available, including, for the first time, clip-on handlebars and a solo seat, perfect for achieving that classic cafe racer aesthetic.

The starting price of the Speed Twin 1200 is set at Rs 12.75 lakh, marking an increase of Rs 1.66 lakh compared to the previous model, which was priced at Rs 11.09 lakh. The Speed Twin 1200 RS, priced at Rs 15.50 lakh, competes closely with the Ducati Monster SP. In the competitive landscape, the Triumph 1200s will face off against the BMW R12 nineT, which comes with a significantly higher price tag of Rs 20.90 lakh.
