Triumph has Launched The Most Affordable Entry Level Triumph in India in Speed 400 Styling.
2025 Triumph Speed T4 – Details
Triumph has introduced a new entry-level motorcycle, the Speed T4, available at a price of Rs 2.17 lakh (excluding showroom price, Delhi). The T4 stands out from the Speed 400, its more affordable counterpart, due to several mechanical and equipment differences. The Speed 400 is largely based on the Speed 400, utilizing simpler components across various areas. It features the same engine but in a different tuning state.
At first glance, the Triumph Speed T4 may appear quite similar to the Speed 400, with the most noticeable differences being a more straightforward and cost-effective telescopic fork at the front, and traditional mirrors instead of the Speed’s sleek bar-end units. However, a closer inspection will also reveal that the T4 features a simpler front brake caliper, less advanced gearshift and rear brake levers, and a less expensive handlebar that lacks the sandblasted finish of the Speed 400. Additionally, it comes equipped with cheaper bias-ply MRF Zapper tires and non-adjustable hand levers, in contrast to the Speed 400, which, after its MY25 update, now comes with Vredestein radial tires and adjustable levers.
The engine, while retaining its core 399cc TR-series motor from the Speed 400, has undergone significant modifications aimed at imbuing it with a distinct character. The peak power has been reduced from 40hp and 37.5Nm to 31hp and 36Nm, however, this reduction does not fully capture the essence of the changes. From 3500rpm to 5500rpm, the T4 actually generates more torque than its predecessor, the Speed, thereby supporting Bajaj’s assertion of a focus on low RPM rideability and a more laid-back nature.
In line with this, the sprocket sprocket has been redesigned, with the rear sprocket increasing from 43 to 39 teeth, enhancing the overall performance. The decrease in engine power has also led Bajaj to deactivate the traction control feature on the Triumph Speed T4, further contributing to cost savings.
The final price tag is RS 23,000 lower than the Speed 400, which has seen its price drop to Rs 2.40 lakh following its update today. When asked about potential concerns over cannibalization between the two models, Bajaj Auto’s Executive Director Rakesh Sharma and President (Pro-Biking) Sumeet Narang remained optimistic. Narang acknowledged that there’s a chance a Speed 400 buyer might find the Triumph Speed T4 to meet all their needs and switch their preference, but also believed there would be an equal number of T4 prospects who could be convinced to upgrade to the Speed 400.
Sharma further stated that they were not worried about competition between the two models but were more focused on the margin they have in this segment, emphasizing the need to expand the overall market, which he believes has seen a slowdown in recent years.
The market’s response and the distribution of sales between the two models remain uncertain. Time will reveal how this unfolds. When inquired about the potential for the Scrambler 400 X to also receive a more affordable version, Narang mentioned that their primary focus is on the street bike segment, rather than the scrambler.
