Audi A5- New Platform
The latest A5 model utilizes Audi’s innovative Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform, a significant upgrade from the outdated MLB architecture found in the current A4. It is important to note that this platform is distinct from the Premium Platform Electric platform used in vehicles like the Q6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan EV. Despite maintaining a longitudinal engine layout, Audi assures that the A5 is adaptable to various electrified powertrains. Autocar UK, our affiliated publication, has also mentioned that the PPC platform has the capability to accommodate range-extender EV powertrains, although Audi has no intentions of incorporating this feature into the A5 model.
The A5 has been enhanced with the new platform, resulting in a 67mm increase in length (measuring 4.83m), a 13mm increase in width (measuring 1.86m), and a 68mm longer wheelbase (measuring 2.9m) compared to the previous A4 model. The design of the A5 showcases an evolutionary style compared to the A4, incorporating some features from the A6 e-tron sedan concept. Notable design elements include the pronounced wheel arches known as ‘Quattro muscle’ by Audi designers, OLED light units capable of displaying eight different patterns, and visible exhaust tips.

Audi provides an optional 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger side, equipped with a filter to prevent distraction for the driver.
Audi A5- Powertrain
The A5 will be equipped with pure-ICE and 48V mild-hybrid powertrains initially. Audi has developed a new MHEV Plus system for the hybrids, which incorporates two motor-generators – a centrally mounted powertrain generator (PTG) in addition to the usual integrated starter-generator (ISG). This system offers improved efficiencies and regenerative braking, allowing it to recuperate up to 25kW, which is more than three times the 8kW limit of the old S4. Additionally, it can produce 18kW (24hp) and 230Nm of torque.
Audi provides the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in two different power outputs: 150hp and 204hp. The 204hp version offers the option of the Quattro AWD system. The A5 diesel variant is equipped with a 204hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that features the MHEV Plus system. The top-of-the-line S5 model boasts a 3.0-litre V6 engine paired with a mild-hybrid system, delivering 367hp. An upcoming addition to the A5 range in global markets is a plug-in hybrid powertrain expected to be introduced next year.
